The writer of the survival website I read every day survivalblog.com John Wesley Rawles says to store Beans Bullets and Bandages.

I’ve been thinking how I would store beans. Not just beans but other food also, but first the beans. When I was in the Air Force we used ionized water for some of the equipment cooling and I brought home 4 five gallon buckets. They have been sitting empty in the garage attic. The other day I went shopping at Costco (My wife usually does the shopping there) and saw the huge bags of beans they have for sale. Problem solved.
Started to gear up. Bought the following:
-
AR-15 with fourteen 30 round clips,
-
AK-47 with five 30 round clips. I have 500 rounds for each
-
Remington 870 12 gauge pump with a pistol grip. It’s a boat anchor because I have no ammo for it yet
-
two Beretta 9mm pistols a 92G and a 92 compact. I have 1000 rounds for them.
-
Bandages. I am starting to stock up on First aid items. I bought some hemostats and shears at the last gunshow. I bought some tape and antibiotic lotion at the store. I’ll buy a little at a time as I grocery shop.

I have always had a survival kit I carry with me when I travel. Now I am building a bug out kit for the house. It’s in a digital camo backpack like the Army’s new uniforms. My wife has a couple of tubs full of camping gear and I had one with my stuff in it. I inventoried it this weekend. The only thing we lack is a working camp stove. It got me revved up about camping so I set the tent up in the back yard and my son and I spent the night out there.

Body armor to take on my trips to Afghanistan.
-
Army mummy sleeping bag that went to Afghanistan with me also. It saved my butt in Kyrgyzstan. It was cold!
-
I joined a local indoor pistol range and have taken the basic, intermediate and CCW courses there. I like to shoot and do okay at it.
-
I joined a local predator hunting club and I am learning to hunt coyotes and Bobcats. I bought a Savage model 11-bolt action in .233. It is dead on at 100 yards. I wish I could call up a coyote. That will spill over into other animals. I have seen some deer so I am going to try to get a deer tag next year.

I went to a class at the botanical gardens about Solar power.
-
I read, read and read some more. I am reading the Army FM 21-150 Hand to Hand Combat (June 1954) right now. I have bought a ton of books the last year and am trying to slow down and start buying gear.
Plans for the next year:
-
I want to join the state’s trapper association and learn how to trap and tan hides.
-
I want to take the intermediate course at the indoor pistol range again.

About this time next year my daughter graduates from High School. After that I plan on trying to transfer with my company to Texas. I plan on buying a House with some acreage. If things fall apart like they might I will have a place for ya’ll to come to.
